Purpose SJJA

Sharp Jiu Jitsu Academy is committed to providing a safe, respectful, and inclusive environment for all students, parents, coaches, staff, and visitors.
Bullying, harassment, or discrimination of any kind will not be tolerated.

This policy applies to:

  • Coaches and assistant coaches
  • Staff and contractors
  • Students (kids, teens, and adults)
  • Parents, guardians, and spectators
  • All Sharp Jiu Jitsu Academy activities (classes, competitions, events, and online interactions)

Definition of Bullying & Harassment

Bullying or harassment is unwanted, unreasonable, or repeated behaviour that causes intimidation, humiliation, offense, or harm.

This includes (but is not limited to):

  1. Verbal
    • Insults, teasing, name-calling
    • Yelling, aggressive language, or humiliation
  2. Physical
    • Pushing, hitting, or unsafe contact
    • Misuse of Jiu Jitsu techniques outside of training rules
  3. Emotional / Psychological
    • Exclusion, intimidation, or public embarrassment
    • Spreading rumours or gossip
  4. Discriminatory
    • Behaviour related to gender, race, religion, age, disability, sexuality, or background
  5. Online
    • Harassment via social media, messaging apps, or group chats
    • Posting inappropriate or harmful content connected to the academy

Expectations of Behaviour

  1. Coaches & Staff
    • Lead by example at all times
    • Maintain professional conduct and boundaries
    • Act immediately if bullying is witnessed
    • Never abuse authority or position
  2. Students
    • Treat teammates, coaches, and staff with respect
    • Use self-control and follow safety rules
    • Report bullying or unsafe behaviour
  3. Parents & Guardians
    • Communicate respectfully with coaches, staff, and other families
    • Never confront or discipline another child
    • Support academy rules and values

Reporting Bullying or Harassment

  1. Concerns may be reported to:
    • Any coach
    • The Head Coach
    • Academy Management
  2. Reports will be:
    • Taken seriously
    • Handled confidentially where possible
    • Investigated fairly and promptly

There will be no retaliation against anyone who raises a genuine concern.

Consequences for Breach of Policy

Disciplinary action may include:

Students

  1. Verbal warning
  2. Removal from class
  3. Parent meeting
  4. Temporary suspension
  5. Permanent removal (no refund)

Coaches & Staff

  1. Verbal warning
  2. Written warning
  3. Retraining or supervision
  4. Suspension
  5. Termination

Parents / Guardians

  1. Verbal warning
  2. Written warning
  3. Restricted access
  4. Termination of membership
Serious incidents may result in immediate suspension or removal.

ZeroTolerance for Retaliation

Any retaliation against a person who reports bullying or participates in an investigation will result in disciplinary action.
