Health Screening

  • Self-Monitoring: Students and staff are encouraged to self-monitor for symptoms of infectious diseases (e.g., fever, cough, rash) and to stay home if they are feeling unwell.
  • Onsite Screening: Implement health screening measures, such as temperature checks, for all students and staff before entering the dojo during an outbreak.

Hygiene Practices Practices

  • Hand Hygiene: Promote regular handwashing with soap and water for at least 20 seconds or the use of hand sanitizers containing at least 60% alcohol.
  • Respiratory Etiquette: Encourage covering coughs and sneezes with a tissue or elbow and disposing of tissues properly.
  • Clean Environment: Ensure frequent cleaning and disinfecting of high-touch surfaces, training mats, and equipment.

Isolation and Exclusion

  • Symptom Reporting: Require students and staff to report any symptoms of infectious diseases immediately to their instructor or the designated health officer.
  • Exclusion from Training: Students and staff who exhibit symptoms of an infectious disease should be excluded from training and advised to seek medical attention. They may only return with medical clearance.
  • Isolation: If a student or staff member falls ill during training, they should be isolated in a designated area until they can safely leave the premises.

Communication

  • Notification: Inform all students, staff, and parents of any confirmed cases of infectious diseases within the dojo while maintaining confidentiality and privacy.
  • Guidance: Provide clear guidance on the steps being taken to mitigate the risk and any additional measures that students and staff need to follow.

Training Adjustments

  • Class Modifications: Modify training sessions to reduce close contact, limit class sizes, and increase ventilation where possible.
  • Remote Training: Offer virtual training sessions for students who are unable to attend in person due to illness or quarantine requirements.

Emergency Response

  • Medical Assistance: In case of a medical emergency related to an infectious disease, follow SJJA’s emergency protocols and contact emergency services immediately.
  • Incident Reporting: Document and report any incidents of infectious disease to the relevant health authorities as required.

Review and Adaptation

  • Policy Review: Regularly review and update the infectious disease policy in line with the latest public health guidelines and recommendations.
  • Feedback Loop: Collect feedback from students, staff, and parents to continuously improve our health and safety protocols.
By adhering to these procedures, SJJA aims to create a safe and healthy environment for all participants, minimizing the risk of infectious disease transmission and ensuring the well-being of our community.
